I love historical fiction. It’s such a broad genre, encompassing a wide variety of books, authors and stories. Good historical fiction can transport you to a time and place you wouldn’t ever get to visit otherwise. One of my favorite things about historical fiction is that when you finish a novel you get to go dig into the real history behind the story! Here are some of my favorite historical fiction novels…perfect for poolside reading!
Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier- Chevalier is best known for her book The Girl with the Pearl Earring which was adapted into a popular film. Chevalier’s writing in Remarkable Creatues reminds me strongly of Jane Austen’s famous works. The book is set in the 1800s on the coast of England and tells the story of friendship between Mary Anning and Elizabeth Philpot, and their shared love of fossil hunting. (more…)

Martin is a favorite author of mine; if you’ve watched the show, hopefully you’ve sought out the series on which the show was based, A Song of Ice and Fire. If not, start here.
